How to boost engagement on social media

Social media is a great tool to advertise your company to the world. However, using it in a way that gets results may be harder than you think. So, how can you effectively use social media platforms to gain followers, interest and, ultimately, clients?

1) Take advantage of short-form video, such as TikTok and Instagram Reels. These are great for drawing in a younger audience, but in the case of Instagram, they also help you beat the algorithm. This is because the algorithm is designed to prioritise reels over photos.

 

2) Use the same posts across multiple social media sites. This will ensure that as many people as possible will see your posts.

 

3) Use Instagram posts to direct people to a link in your bio. This could help to increase site traffic.

 

4) Make your social media accessible. Provide a description of the content of your photos whilst avoiding fancy fonts. Additionally, capitalise every individual word of your hashtags, as that way readers can read things accurately. If you use humour in your posts or captions, try adding a tone indicator (in this case typically /j for ‘joke’, or maybe /hj for ‘half-joking’ or /s for ‘sarcasm’), which is a widely recognised code, making things easier for some people to understand. These could help boost engagement because people will be much more inclined to engage with posts which are accessible to them.

 

5) Interact with your followers and commenters. If you were part of a business with a successful Instagram page, and made a lot of humorous posts, you would find that your followers post funny comments in response, which could increase the amount of likes you receive. Responding to the most popular ones and pinning them would further increase the performance of the post. Taking this example into account, pinning and replying to comments could also help boost the engagement of smaller social media pages.

 

Of course, building a social media page takes a lot of work, and these simple tips alone won’t allow you to do that. However, these little bits of advice should help you on your social media journey.
